Sitcom [imdb] [viff]
Dir: François Ozon
Country: France

Yet another movie about a wacky dysfunctional family. This must be the year for that kind of film. 'Crackers' and 'Celebration' also had that as their subjects.

Very enjoyable, funny film on a superficial level. It starts out pleasent enough- perfect little French family. Big house, smart son, pretty daughter, concerned mother and subtly absent father. Then, the father brings home a symbol -- er, a rat.

The daughter throws herself out of a window, loses the use of her legs, and gets into sado-machocism. The son outs himself at the dinner table, much to the shock of the family, then gets seduced by the maid's husband. The mother worries about everything and the dad just doesn't care. As soon as I thought I'd seen just how bizarre things can be, they get even more odd. It's all shown as if it were completely normal.

Mother at dinner table: "I just love zucchini with olive oil, don't you?"

Gay son: "Yes! I love it."
