Can Canadians screw up what would ordinarily be an interesting topic?Yup.
This batch of short films, with the exception of one, were especially bad. Here's the details, blow by blow.
Cupid Annoyingly shot film (looks like poor Cupie's got the jitters) of Cupid getting hit by his own arrow. Huh? Was that all? Guess so. Ugh.
Always Watching Mismatched couple gets bored of video. Neighbours watch them have sex. So why was this 15 minutes long?
The Surveyor Non-linear story about a kind of date rape situation. And this is also nothing new.
Brothers Hey look! It's a poorly-made, shorter, Canadian version of "Bad Boy Bubby". Too bad it sucked.
Seeing the Literature in Racitot French film shot in Vancouver on random film stock. Very poorly subtitled. Annoying.
from morning on yesterday I waited This could have been good. I didn't like it, but it was the best of the ones I didn't like. Woman seduces Asian grocery store clerk. He's irresponsible and leaves his store. Bad boy! Bad boy! The description the VIFF wrote talks about interracial issues. I think the dumb boy just followed his penis too much and it got him in trouble.
L'Amour L'Amour Shut the Door Pir Favor This film improved dramatically when it melted about 2 minutes into the screening. Canadians trying to be Europeans is even more pathetic than Canadians trying to be Americans.
Far Reaches I didn't see much of this one because I had my eyes closed. The first few seconds were very annoying and headache-inducing though. It would be more at home on a big screen behind a DJ in a club somewhere.
AMF's Tiresias This was the only one I liked. A modern telling of the story of Tiresias done through animation.
Heirs to a Felt Fortune Bad poetry + bad pornography = good film? No.
