Timeless, Bottomless Bad Movie [viff]
Dir: Jang Sun-Woo
Country: South Korea

Even a "bad" Korean film is better than a good Canadian film.

This wasn't a bad movie. This was a good movie (not a great movie) about bad people doing bad things. I can't find one reason to like any of the characters in the film. These are not people I would like to know, meet, talk with, or really have anything to do with at all. They're worse than the people in Kids (maybe a little tamer than those in "Hate" though...). They run around Seoul doing really nasty things to each other and to the rest of the world.

Yeah yeah, I'm being judgemental. How amazingly non-PC of me. Oh my, slap me silly.

There's a part in this film where one of the people making it talks to the camera about how everyone is interpreting the words "bad movie" differently. There's another sequence in which Korea's answer to Screamin' Jay Hawkins sings about how beautiful the world is, while we watch all these bad people do bad things.

The film itself is well done- it's cut up into little episodes (apparently written by the kids themselves) that blend together stylistically very nicely to form what ends up being a good (but long!) film. The music was fabulous, and very well placed. It's too bad that many of the audience members gave up on the movie before it was finished- it did end up being a good movie at the end, it was just difficult to predict this from the beginning.
