Dir: Claude Chabrol

If David Mamet had a heart, were French and could write more natural dialogue, this might have been his film.

Twisty plot- we're not sure until the very end exactly what the nature of the personalities of the two lead characters are. We're kept up in the air about so much stuff through most of the movie. The two leads frequently ask each other to trust them, and in effect, that's what they're asking us to do as the audience, as well. We have to blindly follow these two con artists while they get mixed up in some pretty big stuff. My only real complaint about this well-written film is that it took its time in getting going.

Excellent acting as usual from Isabelle Huppert (long time Hal Hartley regular) and some French Sir Anthony Hopkins lookalike.
