Hiroshima

We've seen bunk car parking... but this is a new one:

Last night, I tried to sleep on the train into Hiroshima. Didn't work very well, since I ended up staying awake and talking with a couple from Singapore most of the night. Today, I was really really tired.

I decided to take a short walk (well, it looked short on the map) to the Gallery of Modern Art. Yes!

They went and put it on top of a hill. As I was walking up the hill, I asked myself (out loud- I'm starting to talk to myself now, afraid I'll forget my English before I return to Canada) this question: Why am I always walking up hills in strange Japanese cities?

No answer. In any case, here I am in yet another strange Japanese city, walking up a hill. At least I got a view.

Pretty nice view too.

The art museum was mostly full of stuff I didn't like. The gallery was split into two equal halves- one was a regular exhibit, the other was a changing show. Their regular exibition space was full of American art, of all things. At least there was a Haring there, so all was not lost. The other side was more interesting though. Current Japanese art about Hiroshima or peace or war. Some really lovely stuff.

Outside, there were a bunch of standard outside stone sculpture things. One that caught my attention was called "World Call Hiroshima".

World Call Hiroshima. A rock.
World Call Hiroshima. A rock.

What an odd name for a rock with holes.

Reading the information card, I discovered that is has a phone number. A rock with a phone number. Give it a call! It's (082) 263-0540.
