Lots of places in Japan have pretty pictures of food outside, but inside all the menus are in Japanese. This is potentially bad, especially if you don't know how to say what you want in Japanese. Something like "Chicken Katsu Curry" is fine, but even I get tired of chicken katsu curry after a while.

Solution: Get a digital camera with a good LCD screen, or a Polaroid camera. Take pictures of what you want outside. When you get inside, bow alot and show the waitress the pictures that were taken. "Sumimasen, soro desu." (Please, this one) Mission accomplished!
