Just a dotthe tall blond guy goes to japan

I did it!

Akihabara

Look! I bought something.

A lovely blue Discman.
A lovely blue Discman.

I spent the morning wandering around through the shops in Akihabara looking for a good deal on a Discman (or, as they're apparently called over here, "CD Walkman"). I was just about to walk down that stairs of a shop, after having made notes on the prices and models available, when I heard a curiously-accented voice say "Can I help you?"

It took me a second or two to realize that they were speaking English, and speaking it to me. A Japanese man smiles at me and asks the question again, in that funny-accented voice. What's that accent? It's vaguely familliar...

So I tell him what I'm looking for- that blue Discman over there... ask a few questions, and end up buying the thing. As it turns out, it's a duty-free area of the store. He asks for my passport, and when seeing it, he says, "Oh! You're from Canada- which part?"

"Vancouver."

"Oh! I'm from Montreal."

Turns out he speaks French, English and Japanese. The familliar accent was of course a Quebecois-French accent- very similar to my roommate in Vancouver. Hah!
